Brontosaurus

” Harry resigned his job as a vocational rehabilitation counselor, and took his retirement fund in one lump sum. It was $7,400, I think. Then Harry took me out to breakfast and dinner everyday all summer long. It was fabulous. We loved and lolled and went out for coffee. We drove to rivers and beaches, went swimming, read Carver and O’Hara, Patchen and Cummings out loud. We drank cocktails and nibbled more calamari. We tanned.

Sometimes we invited friends to go with us, mostly poets, as long as they had manners. Most times, we went alone.

Harry got me laughing so hard because he could mimic anyone, anything. He mimicked horse, dogs, Chinese waiters, Jewish immigrants, machinery, phones. I laughed and laughed, giddy with delight. “

Excerpt from my mom’s book. Leanne Grabel Brontosaurus.

And Harry is really my dad.
